For starters, we offer 10, 15, 20 and 30 yard dumpsters to Providence and its area suburbs. Go to our service area page if you’d like to know if we service the location you need a dumpster. Dumpster sizes are often confusing to customers because there’s no exact formula of what each size can hold. It not only depends on the volume of the items you’re putting in the container, but also the weight of those items. As for a general rule, here’s what we abide by considering the law of averages in terms of weight and volume:

10 yard dumpsters, better known as our smallest size, are meant for small home renovations like cleaning out a garage. If it’s easier to think of it in terms of the amount you can fit in the bed of a pickup truck, 10 yards equals about three trucks worth. In some cases, small dumpsters are used to hold heavy material like concrete or dirt to keep you from facing weight overage fees.

15 yard dumpsters hold what is roughly equivalent to four truckloads of material. We typically bump a customer up the 15 yard size if we aren’t positive a 10 yard will be enough to handle their project. These can be used for heavy material, as well.

20 yard dumpsters are a good divide between small and large containers. These roll-offs can handle about six pickup trucks. 20 yards can handle the right amount of volume and weight for medium-sized residential projects.

30 yard dumpsters, you can probably assume by now, are the largest size dumpster. These boxes bump it up to nine trucks worth of debris. If we are at all concerned that a 20 yard won’t work for you, we’ll take it up to 30 yards. The small cost difference will be worth it in the end vs. facing overage costs.
